【Title】Protein seeds as pathogens and biomarkers
Dr. Byron Caughey is one of the leading scientists in the field prion diseases and protein misfolding diseases.
He has been established very important techniques such as in vitro conversion reactions and thereafter real-time
quaking induced conversion (RT-QuIC) that enables a high sensitive detection of prions. RT-QuIC is now widely used
not only for the diagnosis of prion diseases but also for other neurodegenerative disorders. He has also focused on
the elucidation of infectious prion structures and recent his work includes elucidation of prion structure using a cryo-electron
microscopy. His scientific approaches are always straightforward to address the questions what we need to be clarified
